Dedicated to the Sensible Enjoyment of Nature
The PLANTATION SPORTSMENS CLUB was founded on September 24, 2003, with the envision of putting together a mix of
hunting, freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing and sport shooting activities for the residents of the Plantation of Leesburg.
The club has guest speakers, special outdoor activity interest groups and organized group sporting events. The best part is
that membership is free. The club has no dues. The club’s income is derived from a monthly 50/50 raffle.
Twenty
one Plantation of Leesburg residents showed up at the first meeting. Within three meetings the club had over 50 members. Today
the membership stands at over 85 members. The clubs expects to have 100 members by years end.
The club is the only
club of it’s kind to be found in an active adult community between Clermont and Lady Lake.
Each month the hunting,
freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing and sport shooting interest group coordinators report on upcoming events, what is hot
and where to go.
Each month the club has guest speakers. The club has had the Plantation Archery Club, Lake County
Sheriffs Office SWAT team, Florida State Representative Carey Baker who recently returned from IRAC, newly elected Sheriff
Chris Daniels or the Lake County Sheriffs Office, charter boat captains, champion fly fishermen, along with a host of renowned
Florida professional fisherman and hunters as guest speakers. The club is always looking for interesting speakers. Whenever
a guest speaker is unavailable we have acquired a large collection of hunting, fishing and sport shooting tapes and they are
shown. If there were someone or some group a member would like to see and hear at a future meeting they pass the information
onto the clubs president and he seeks a speaker to fill the need.
Each month the club has one or more organized group
sporting events. We have had a saltwater fishing trip with more being planned. We have gone as a group to several Southern
Classic Gun and Knife Shows, The Florida Sportsmens Fishing Show and to the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World. Another hog
hunt, a turkey hunt and a dove hunt are being planned.
The club has developed it’s own logo and soon it will
be seen throughout the Plantation at Leesburg on shirts, hats and jackets.
The club has a corkboard at each meeting
where members can display sporting items they have for sale or want to purchase.
After the business portion of each
meeting the members break up into hunting, freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing and sport shooting interest groups.
